Research

GRCT is Africa’s first charitable organisation dedicated to giraffe conservation. We operate a number of giraffe research projects across East Africa. Our flagship project is the Rothschild’s Giraffe Project, established in 2009, the first and only dedicated research to be carried out on this Endangered sub-species.

If we are to develop effective conservation plans for a species or subspecies, research is essential. Compared to other species, very little is known about giraffe. We aim to change this and are busy collecting data on the following:

  • Population status and distribution
  • Ecological requirements
  • Behaviour and social structure
  • Threats
  • Management issues

This information will be used to develop long-term conservation strategies for giraffe to help ensure their survival in the wild.
